Can You Relate...

On a perfect day I know that I can count on you, when that’s not possible tell me can you weather the storm. That’s the way it starts off, needing to know if you are able to weather the storm. That’s starts off my memory of the group, “Boyz II Men “. When I hear that song it takes me back to a relationship that I should have ask that same question. It’s amazing how when you think you are going through something that no one else is going through here comes a song that tells you exactly what’s going on in your life. Well the song is “Can You Stand The Rain”, I had a time in my life when that song was my anthem. It looked like every time I thought that relationship was on solid ground, the storm would show up. You know the storm: You are not paying me any attention, why didn’t you ask me where I was going, that means you don’t care about me or you are seeing someone else. The insecurity of someone else can make a storm arise in a relationship when the sun is shinning. So I’ve learned to ask questions before I start a friendship that might turn into a relationship.

Another thing I’ve learned from “Boyz II Men“ is that you cannot return to “Yesterday”. So be careful what you say or do to others whether it’s in a relationship, friendship, associate, or just someone in passing by. Life is too short to keep worry ,strife ,grief or even what you want out of life, before making things work out with those you have made a choice to share this life with. So I’m going to leave you with these lyrics of “Boyz II Men”.

Yesterday…
All my troubles seem so far away
Now it seems as though they’re here II stay
Oh I believe in yesterday
Suddenly, I’m not half the man I use II be
There’s a shadow hanging over me
Oh yesterday came suddenly
Why she had II go, I don’t know
She wouldn’t say, she wouldn’t say
I said something worry now I long for yesterday
Yesterday…

  1. I like this song and I remember when it came out. It is amazing that some music can trigger something in us that makes us respond in a certain way. You say that it makes you now ask questions before you get into a relationship. That can be a good thing. The answers you get can make you stand back and take everything in. The song makes you inquire about the things that are important to you and from the answers you get you know if you want to proceed. As we get older our lives are always going to run into storms. But life lessons can always be assoicated with questions we did or did not ask.

  2. Storm is the weather of your faith. To learn a lesson or to repeat the pattern. Asking questions when there's really no true answer in knowing who to love, waiting is the key. Where there's no question then the rain turn into sunny days sailing away peacefully in love where there's no questions.

  3. 0mg. I can totally relate to that song. In my last relationship, I kind of had songs I dedicated to it. Good songs and bad songs. But the song, “Can You Stand the Rain,” really relates to my last relationship. It’s like they made that song just for me. I understand where you’re coming from when you say that it seems like the person who writes the songs are writing it, based on your relationship.

  4. I think I get what you’re trying to say and I think Bob Marley said it best with, “Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don't complicate your mind.” The main thing is to just stay strong, mentally and physically. Don’t let life’s problems drag you under. So, keep going strong and remember to live life to the fullest. Oh, and one more thing Marley said, “Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds.”
